Sommelier

Privacy Policy

Sommelier is built to know as little about you as possible. No account, no email address, no advertising and no trackers.

1. Who is responsible?

Patrick Leclair, developer of the Sommelier app, Belgium.
Contact: patrick@fast-solutions.group

2. There is no account

You can use Sommelier without registering. We ask for no name, no email address and no telephone number. We do not know who you are.

3. What stays on your device?

Almost everything. The following data is stored solely on your iPhone and is never sent to us:

This data is held in the app's secure storage. If you delete the app, it goes with it.

4. What does get sent?

Your request for a recommendation

When you ask for a recommendation, we send the following to our server: the description of your dish or wine, the photo you take of a label or wine list and — if you have enabled this — your taste profile and the relevant bottles from your cellar. Our server immediately forwards this to Anthropic, which carries out the analysis, and returns the answer to you.

We do not retain the content of your requests or your photos. They pass through our server only in order to be forwarded. Anthropic retains API inputs and outputs for a maximum of 7 days in order to detect misuse, and does not use them to train AI models.

Please do not take photos showing people or other private information: photograph only the label or the wine list.

An anonymous device number

On first launch, the app generates a random number. This is not an Apple ID and not an advertising identifier, and it cannot be traced back to you. We use it solely to count how many free recommendations you have left, to enforce the daily fair-use limit and to check your subscription status. If you delete the app, the number is gone; on a fresh installation you receive a new one.

Your subscription

Purchases are handled entirely through the App Store. We never see your payment details. To establish whether you have Premium, we exchange only the anonymous device number and your status ("active or not") with RevenueCat.

5. What we do not do

For transfers outside the European Economic Area, we rely on the data processing agreements and the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses used by these suppliers.

8. How long do we keep anything?

DataRetention period
Content of your requests and photosWe do not retain it; a maximum of 7 days at Anthropic
Counter for your daily limit25 hours, then automatically erased
Counter for your monthly free recommendationsFor as long as you use the app, and no more than 12 months after you last used it

9. Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection and data portability. Because we keep no account, we cannot identify you by your name or email address — do write to us and we will explain what is possible in your case.

The quickest way to erase everything relating to you is to delete the app from your device. Doing so removes your local data and your anonymous device number, and leaves the counters on our server no longer linked to anything.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you may lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority, Rue de la Presse 35, 1000 Brussels — dataprotectionauthority.be.

10. Recommendations generated by artificial intelligence

The wine recommendations in Sommelier are generated by an AI model, not by a human sommelier. Like any AI system, it can get things wrong: please verify important information yourself, particularly before making a purchase. Sommelier offers advice on taste, not medical or nutritional advice.

11. Age

Sommelier is about wine and is not intended for minors. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

12. Changes

Whenever this policy changes, we update the date at the top. In the event of a substantial change, we will notify you in the app.
